O.A.R. at the Birds Nest at FBR Open

Last night I was fortunate enough to go watch the band, O.A.R. perform at the Birds Nest at the FBR (formally the Phoenix Open) in Scottsdale, Arizona.  The FBR is a an annual golf tournament that happens every year at the Scottsdale Princess Resort/TPC Golf Course.  The Birds Nest is a huge tented and outdoor area where the “after party” is held.  After the golf tournament ends, the spectators make their way to the Birds Nest for some more drinks, food and mingling.  This year, the tent was bigger than ever and the whole entire venue was sponsored by Dos Gringos, a very popular Mexican restaurant in AZ, and Coors Light.  There were tables, chairs, heat lamps, and bars at every corner (along with the not so pleasant port-o-potties).  The Birds nest, like the FBR Open is the perfect people spectator sport.  There was a little bit of everything to look at, and previous reviews of the FBR Open have said that this event has the highest percentage of beautiful people in one area.  Hey, if I am part of the crowd, I’m okay with that!  The event planner certainly did a great job setting up the venue.  The tent was perfectly lined in sheer white, there were rotating image displaying disco balls and the lighting created a great ambiance.  I had an amazing time and suggest the FBR Open and the Birds Nest to anyone who is in town this weekend.  You can get your tickets to both the tournament and the after party online or when you arrive.

Jessica Simpson is FAT

Jessica Simpson is one of the most famous pop singers, slash reality TV stars, slash entrepreneurs in the world.  She is known for being super cute and blonde and beautiful. But lately, she has been gaining and gaining and gaining more weight.  All of us want to know… just when will it stop?  Is she pulling an Oprah?

She was recently spotted at a performance in Florida wearing a very unflattering outfit.  And, since when does Jessica Simpson sing at a show that she isn’t headlining or selling out.  What is happening to our girl?  She was on stage at a Country Chili Cookout in Pembroke Pines Florida.  It seems as though Miss Simpson’s life is heading down hill.

At one point in her life, she was on top of the world.  She had a loving marriage, a great singing career and the number one hit television show on cable.  She was fit and gorgeous.  Since then, she has tried to switch over to country music, been divorced and in relationship after relationship, has had her father try and control her life and career splashed all over the media, and apparently she has stopped caring about what she looks like.   Maybe she will wake up soon and look and the mirror.  It’s not easy Jess, but we all know with a little willpower, a good trainer and some veggies we can have you back to looking good in no time.

Sasha and Malia Obama Wear J.Crew

As the Presidential Inauguration was taking place and being broadcast live all day long on every television station all over the world and on cnn.com, no one could have missed what the new first family was wearing.  That’s right, the three first ladies were wearing J.Crew.  Sasha and Malia were wearing custom made outfits from J.Crew and Michelle Obama was wearing green gloves by J.Crew.  As soon as the news broke on “who” they were wearing, everyone decided to race to their website, jcrew.com.  The J.Crew website had so many viewers on Tuesday that by early Wednesday morning the entire women’s section of the site had crashed.  By later that day, the whole site came down.

Reports were that general internet traffic that day was much higher than usual anyways due to the Presidential Inauguration, but J.Crew never expected their site to crash.  The site is finally back up, but if you want to get yourself a pretty pair of green gloves or outfits for your kids to match Sasha and Malia, you will have to join a long waiting list.  The gloves are apparently on the website now, but the outfits for Malia and Sasha were custom creations and one of a kind.  You will be able to find similar coats, but not the exact replica, says a spokesperson for J. 81st Annual Academy Award Nominations

Tomorrow is a huge day in award show land.  Everyone has been all wrapped up in the Presidential Inauguration that I am sure most people have forgotten about the Oscar nomination announcements!  The nominations for the 81st Annual Academy awards will be held live tomorrow, Thursday January 22nd, 2009 at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater located in Beverly Hills, CA at 5:30am PST.  The nominations will be announced by Oscar winner Forest Whitaker and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President, Sid Ganis.

The 81st Annual Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2008 will be presented at the Kodak Theatre, at the Hollywood and Highland center in Hollywood, CA.  The Oscars will be hosted by Hugh Jackman and will air live on Sunday February 22, 2009 on the ABC Television Network.

2009 NBA All-Star Game

The 2009 NBA All-Star Game will be held at the home of the Phoenix Suns at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona.  There will be festivities all weekend long and the actual game will be held the day after Valentine’s Day, on Sunday February 15th, 2009.  The last time Phoenix hosted the event was in 1995.  Some of the all-stars who will be playing include, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Tim Duncan, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Garnett and LeBron James.  The game will air live on TNT.

Phoenix is definitely a great place to host any event, especially in the winter for those of you who come in from out of town as the weather is beautiful.  And, they don’t call it NBA All-Star WEEKEND for nothing.  There is so much going on the entire weekend that you will need to book yourself a hotel near the US Airways Center.  T-Mobile will be having their annual NBA All-Star event and 944 Magazine has rented out the W for the whole weekend.  The Rookie Challenge will be held on Friday the 13th, and the famous Shooting Stars, Three Point Shootout and the Slam Dunk Contest will be held on Valentine’s day, Saturday February 14th, both at the US Airways Center.

Ryan Seacrest Dissed by Brad & Angelina

On Sunday night at the 66th Annual Golden Globe awards, Ryan Seacrest was hosting the E! channel’s Live from The Red Carpet, interviewing all of the stars like he usually does at every major award show.  As soon as he got done interviewing Beyonce Knowles he ran down the stairs to try and get an interview with the most famous couple of the night, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.  Ryan called out their names while the cameras were still rolling and Brad and Angelina completely disregarded the host.  They turned their backs in the opposite direction and their body guard even came in to put his hand in front of Ryan in a gesture to say, please step back.  Ryan quickly and frantically turned it back to his co-host, Giuliana Rancic.

Since the incident, Ryan has talked about it on his morning radio show, while other pop culture publication reports are making excuses that Brad and Angelina had a deal to interview exclusively with NBC. Ryan definitely expected to get the interview and was probably super embarrassed that he got totally snubbed by the King and Queen of Hollywood.

Kate Hudson and Adam Scott an Item?

This absolutely can NOT be happening!!!  My long standing crush, Adam Scott is way too good for her!  Reports have been circulating this week that PGA professional golfer Adam Scott was hanging out with Kate Hudson during the Mercedes Championship tournament in Maui, Hawaii.  Since then, Adam Scott has denied the relationship, however this picture sure looks like they are making out!

Since Kate Hudson’s divorce, she has been very unlucky in love and has been slutting around with the likes of Owen Wilson and Lance Armstrong.  I really hope Adam Scott knows what he is doing.  If he dates her, it will ruin his reputation.  He is the hottest thing since slice bread and I know he can do better!

And the Golden Globe goes to…

Kate Winslet and Slumdog Millionaire were among the big winners at last night’s 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Kate won Best Supporting Actress for The Reader and Best Leading Actress in a drama motion picture for Revolutionary Road. Slumdog Millionaire won for Best Picture in a drama motion picture as well as Original Screenplay, Original Score and Best Director.   A few of the other noted winners of the night were, Mickey Rourke who won for Best Actor in a drama for The Wrestler, Heath Ledger for Best Supporting Actor in The Dark Knight, and Colin Farrell for Best Actor in a comedy or musical for In Bruges.  30 Rock also won big last night bringing home the awards for Best Television Series in a Comedy or Musical,  Best Actress and Best Actor.  For a list of all the nights winners visit Variety.com.  Congratulations!!!

Now and most importantly…  In fashion, the theme of the night appeared to be Gold and Silver!  There were a bunch of hits as well as misses this year on the famous red carpet.  A few of my favorites were, of course the always stunning Angelina Jolie, Eva Mendes, Brooke Burke, Olivia Wilde, Demi Moore and Cameron Diaz.  As for the ladies who I didn’t approve, Jennifer Lopez in her way too revealing gold dress, Drew Barrymore, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Renée Zellweger.

Ready Or Not, Here He Comes – Obama To The Rescue!

Nobody said that being the President of the United States of America was easy. In fact, for Barack Obama, it’s going to be downright tough for the first few months. Some people blame the economy diving deeper into darkness with jobless claims rising during the election for Senator John McCain’s loss, but I choose to think, that Obama may have found a way to make the American people feel united. We’re going through tough times but something about this guy makes me feel confident about the future of America. Bill Clinton said not to bet against America and with Barack taking the reigns in this year’s up and coming Presidential inauguration, I believe that more and more will adopt the same attitude. The historic day on January 20th is a hot ticket and lodging is booked up to 50 miles outside of DC. Luckily though, I know that there is at least one hotel near the Presidential Inauguration with rooms available. I know I would attend the event if I could. Barack displays a certain charisma that cannot be ignored. It’s kind of funny because him, his team, and everyone in this country knows that the road ahead is going to be pretty darn rough. But like Abraham Lincoln who united America during the Civil War, Obama’s presence commands respect. It is going to be a wild ride, but I know that President-Elect Barack Obama will lead the United States back to the land of prosperity.

One Fifth Avenue

For Christmas I received the book, “One Fifth Avenue,” written by Candace Bushnell.  Candace Bushnell is a famous writer known for her best selling novels, “Sex and The City” and “Lipstick Jungle.”  “Sex and The City” and “Lipstick Jungle” became very successful television shows.  I am such a big fan of  the shows, as well as the Sex and The City movie, but I’ve never actually read one of her books until now.

One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell

“One Fifth Avenue” is all about the tenants who live in a building on the little island of Manhattan, with the address One Fifth Avenue.  The tenants are very wealthy.  You would think that the book would be all about the glitz and glamor of the rich and famous.  I was pleasantly surprised that is was mainly about the hardships and struggles of having the success, that some people only ever dream of having.  The book was also hip to the current trends as the characters wrote in their own blogs, while one of the characters was dying to be like a girl from the popular reality show, The Hills.

While I was reading, I couldn’t help but think about who would play each character.  I really hope, and I am sure it will, that this book will turn into a screen play.  Unlike the past, this time I’ll know the story beforehand.  It’ll definitely be more interesting to watch, as I’ll be able to identify with the plots and characters, and see the differences and similarities between the book and the show.
